Things are really starting to heat up here in the Haverhill area, which means your AC is having to work overtime. When your system starts working overtime it’s more likely to break down. That’s why it’s so important to have an AC repair technician you can trust. It’s best to do some research before a breakdown so when you need a repair you aren’t just picking the first name out of the phone book. There are some companies out there that try to take advantage of your sweaty state. So what are some signs that your AC repair technician doesn’t have your best interests in mind?
- Requesting Payment Before Beginning Work
- If you’ve ever watched a daytime court show you know that not only should you get things in writing, but you also shouldn’t pay contractors before they’ve provided service. Reputable companies will provide an estimate and most will not require any payment before work begins.
- Quotes a Price Before Inspecting Your System
- If your technician hasn’t inspected your system how are they figuring up the price they are quoting? Find a company that will provide both an inspection and an estimate before quoting and beginning service.
- Refuses to Put it in Writing
- Again, unless you want to end up in small claims court, don’t work with a company that refuses to put work in writing. Having a signed contract or estimate means that you and your technician are both on the same page as far as the scope of the work involved and the cost.

My wife was telling me that she thinks something might be wrong with our AC at home. Since I don’t have enough money to replace it right now, I was curious about how I would find someone to come and repair it. I really like that you say to make sure that the company puts their work on writing before hand.

I really appreciate your tip to try and find a company who will come and inspect your unit before giving you a quote. My wife and I live in a hot area, and we want to make sure our air conditioning unit is working for the winter. I will be sure to tell my wife that we should try and find a company that will inspect our air conditioning first!

I really appreciate your tip to try and find a contractor who is willing to inspect your unit before they give you a price. My wife and I have been thinking of getting a new house, and we are concerned that we won’t be able to keep it cold with how hot it gets in this area. If we move into that house, I will be sure to find a contractor that can look at our unit before they quote us!

My air conditioner has been leaking small amounts of water over the past few days and I have no idea what the source of the problem is. The water is leaking onto my new carpet, so I need to get it repaired quickly by a technician I can trust. You make a great point that you should hire a company that provides a written contract and gives you an estimate after doing an inspection of the system. Also, in my opinion, it would be great if they provide a warranty for their services because this would give me peace of mind that the repair will last for a long time.
