Summer has hit the Merrick Valley and Southern New Hampshire area. You probably have a lot of ways you want to go out and enjoy the season, but there are times when you just want to relax and stay at home. It may be the hottest time of the year, but the team at Climate Zone has some tips to keep you cool and save you money on your energy bill.

Set Your Programmable Thermostat

Increasing the temperature on your programmable thermostat when you’re out of the house is a simple way to save money. The U.S. Department of Energy has discovered that by setting your thermostat back 7-10 degrees while you’re at work during the week could save you up to 10% on your energy bill. There are many different types of programmable thermostats and we would be happy to work with you to figure out the programmable thermostat that best fits your lifestyle.

Use Your Ceiling Fan

If you’re using a ceiling fan in addition to running your air conditioner you can raise the temperature on your thermostat by a few degrees without affecting your comfort level. Every degree you’re able to raise the temperature, you decrease the duration of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner by an average of 10%. Be sure and check that you have your fan set to rotate in the correct direction; during the summer make sure the air from the fan is blowing down. You should be able to feel a breeze while standing underneath the fan.

Keep Your Curtains and Blinds Closed

As you know when you’re outside, it’s cooler in the shade. Closing your blinds not only keeps out the sun, but it also helps insulate your windows and keeps cool air from escaping. You’ll take a load off your air conditioner and you’ll save money on your utility bills.

Set Up an Air Conditioner Service Appointment

We know we say it all the time, but that’s because it’s so important. Keeping up-to-date on your annual scheduled maintenance will keep your system running at its best. You don’t want to be left sweating this August due to a break down. During your tune-up our professionals will be able to catch small problems before they become big problems.
